This is our first blog post ever as we say so long to 2017 and ring in the new year! This past year had its accomplishments, struggles, new friends and memories to last a lifetime.

If this is your first time visiting M. Funk Dance Productions/Prairie Diva, welcome to our world of dance services! Take a look around our site and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Let Me Introduce Myself

My name is Meagan Funk. I am the creator and owner of M. Funk Dance Productions and Prairie Diva. 2017 was a very busy year. I graduated from Red River College in the Business Administration diploma program, with a major in Marketing.

I decided to go back to school at the age of 29. I was nervous about attending college, as the last time I attended college was dance college in Toronto. This time around would be more focused on the academics and it had been a while since I sat down with a calculator and crunched numbers in a math course. It was a tough journey, but I made it through and learned more about the business basics, which I can now say has helped tremendously in running my own business. A lot of being an entrepreneur has to do with learning as you go, but taking the time to also learn some applied knowledge can help big time as well.

Balancing Act

While in school, Prairie Diva and M. Funk Dance Productions were still going strong and we were able to take part in some pretty unique experiences.

In 2017, Prairie Diva added new levels to their burlesque fusion dance classes. We now offer beginner, beginner/intermediate and intermediate/advanced to cater to our students’ needs.

Prairie Diva hosted two showcases this past year, which involved students in the summer and fall sessions. We held our Valentine’s Hangover showcase, as well as a Friday the 13th: Halloween Edition showcase at the Park Theatre. These showcases are a great way to get students out of their comfort zone and feel completely empowered on stage, in a judgment-free environment that is inviting to all. It was amazing to see these women grow and transform from a student in the studio to a performer on the stage.

It was also a busy year for M. Funk Dance Productions. We had the pleasure of performing at events around the city, such as a classic show girl performance at a wedding at South Beach Casino, the first ever Winnipeg Tattoo Convention, the Winnipeg International Burlesque Festival, a high school reunion, and in two music videos. This past summer we were also fortunate to work with two wedding couples to create their first dances. One went with a romantic contemporary dance to a slow country song, while the other broke out into a 90’s mash-up.

Looking Forward

I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store! We have some exciting plans on the horizon and can’t wait to share them with all of you!

Wishing you success and happiness for 2018! Don’t forget to always take risks and never give up on your dreams. Success comes with hardships and hard work. Getting out of your comfort zone can lead to a happiness you never knew existed. Here’s to a new year! I hope you dance the night away!
