Each of the Prairie Divas took part in a professional photo shoot with AMC Studio and answered a series of questions about themselves.

Introducing

Marie:

“I love how dancing frees my mind to focus on my body. I love feeling the music through my moves and I am not going to lie that I do get a boost of vanity when I know other people are watching me. I love the empowerment, as a sensual being, that dancing gives me.”

When did you start dancing?

I’ve always loved dancing. When I was little I used to make up moves and routines to songs I liked, and growing up I could often be found moving my body somehow to music around me. When I became an adult I started going out to clubs specifically so I could dance for a long time. It felt therapeutic and stress relieving for me. I did not start taking dance classes until I started with Prairie Diva, and I felt I needed a bit of a challenge to actually have a structured routine and some discipline.

Favourite past times/other hobbies

I enjoy being active, riding my bike, walking, hula hooping. I also enjoy some down time like tv, movies and, *gasp*,  playing Sims. I love a good hang out with friends and really enjoy themed parties.

My day job

I work with children in a child care environment. I just finished my two year certification as an Early Childhood Educator through Red River College.

Fun/interesting fact about me

I can’t get enough of Feta Cheese and Jalapeños as a combination in many things.

Goals and aspirations

I would eventually like to open up a home daycare, but also want to continue my education in the child care field in Developmental Studies, and my ultimate travel destination is Australia and NewZealand, to see some of the places where they filmed The Lord of the Rings. One day I’ll get there. I would also like to be part of a Trio or even have a solo dance at one of the showcases. To sing onstage would be another aspiration of mine.

How I first heard about Prairie Diva dance classes

I found the dance classes because one of my friends was getting married and part of her bachelorette party was doing a class with Meagan. I fell in love with the style of dancing because when I get on the dance floor, I’m a pretty sensual dancer naturally.

What I like about Prairie Diva dance classes

Taking these classes has done a great deal to increase my over all confidence and has definitely boosted a body positive image within myself. Dancing in classes with other women just reinforces the energy we create and feels fantastic to share. Meagan is a tiny but fierce whirlwind of empowerment and encouragement and it is a joy to be in her classes.

Making friends & connections

I have definitely met some amazing women through these classes. The connections made through dancing together are like none that you can find anywhere else. Finding like minded women to dance with and connect with creates an atmosphere of sisterhood I have always craved.

What I’m most looking forward to with Prairie Diva’s classes

Being a part of something I can finally call my own. I want to continue dancing in these classes and advance as a dancer.
