What is Burlesque Fusion?

Burlesque Fusion is a new form of dance that infuses jazz and burlesque styles incorporating sexy movements like hip shakes, shimmies, struts, and fun footwork. This style is danced to upbeat or sultry, popular music. Burlesque fusion’s purpose is to empower women, making them feel confident and sexy—all in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.

What is the difference between burlesque and Burlesque Fusion?

Burlesque is the classic art of strip tease and burlesque fusion takes sexy aspects from burlesque, however is more focused on the dance aspect of the style.

Is there any stripping involved in Burlesque Fusion dance classes?

No, there is no stripping involved, as the focus of the class is strictly on dancing. There are sexy movements, but we keep all of our clothes on throughout the class.

What do I wear to class?

Please wear what you feel comfortable dancing in, whether it be yoga pants, shorts or, if you would like to add a touch of burlesque to your ensemble, a crop top or heels. Some students prefer to dance in heels, but sneakers, jazz dance, character shoes, or bare feet are also an option. Heels are optional and not recommended for beginners new to this style of dance.

What age group normally attends these classes?

Due to the provocative nature of burlesque fusion classes, they are 18+, however there is no age limit. All women are sexy and we invite all ages to take part in our welcoming, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment.

How often are your sessions?

Sessions are seasonal, and we offer them in the spring, summer, fall, and winter. Visit our events page so you don’t miss registration.

Are there performances I can participate in?

Yes! Prairie Diva puts on bi-annual showcases. All participants involved in the current session, no matter the class, are invited to perform in the showcase alongside other local performers. These showcases are in the style of Burlesque Fusion and other local performers include dancers, singers, pole dancers, classic burlesque acts, aerialists etc.

Do I have to perform in the showcases?

We offer two types of sessions. One is recreational and one is for those more inclined to perform. Check out our current and upcoming sessions for more information on what type of session is happening at the moment.

Can I drop in?

Drop-ins are welcome for our regular sessions. However, due to the nature of our showcases and the formations we put in place, we treat showcase sessions like rehearsals and only those registered may attend.

Do you offer lessons for Bachelorette parties?

Yes, we do! For our Burlesque parties, we teach a short, simple burlesque fusion dance routine and then ladies have the option to get all dressed up and perform it for each other. We have costumes available to wear, such as boas, cute little feather tails, skirts and corsets. It’s a lot of fun!

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes, we offer private lessons out of Ted Motyka Dance Studio in the exchange district. Please check out our rate session for more info on pricing.
